Did you guess Alex? If so, you’re wrong! It was ME.
Potty training can be bad for your health. It’s a pretty
ridiculous story.....
I was at Mom’s group, which meets on Wednesday afternoons.
Tucker had woken up from his nap and come over to find me at our neighbor
Ashleigh’s house. We were just about finished and he was telling me “poo poo”.
Now, I’m not really potty training him, but I have been putting him on the
potty every time I change him and he does go. So I thought it was worth taking
him to try. Of course, we get in the bathroom and he doesn’t go.
Here is where I made
my first mistake. I took his diaper off, since we were just going to walk right
home and get a new one. Well, in the 1 ½ minutes it took to leave the bathroom
and walk outside, he peed and pooped in his jeans.....which went right down his
leg and got all over his shoes. Blech. So I take him home, bathe him, clean off
the shoes, etc.
Fast forward an hour. I am reading books on the couch with
the boys and Tucker wants to go outside. Well, a man was working on our front
door because the lock wasn’t working, and he broke a pane of the glass. So I
didn’t want Tucker getting glass in his foot, but that meant I had to find his
only other pair of shoes.....and I couldn’t. They were missing. So I searched
around for a bit, with no luck.
I then put his rain boots on him, which made him annoyed. So
he started fussing and making ME annoyed so I threw him in his crib for a time
out.
I think that sucker is about 10 lbs.
I then returned to the couch to resume reading, but looked
over and thought I saw his croc under our shoe shelf, way in the back. So I
went over and crouched down to retrieve it. Well, on that shelf was a pumpkin.
A big one, that I had bought from Amos, my door-to-door pumpkin supplier. While
grabbing the croc I unintentionally bumped the shoe shelf which knocked the
pumpkin onto my head, causing it to slam into the concrete floor. PEOPLE, A
PUMPKIN FELL ON MY HEAD.
It hurt so bad that I screamed and as I stood up, put my
hands on my head. I pulled them away to find them covered in blood. Then I hear
Cole and Cooper crying. So I start crying because I figure this.must.be.bad. I
yell for Cole to go get a towel, and he
returns with one square of toilet paper. Literally. And I don’t even buy the
good kind, so people, this was not gonna cut it. I yelled that I needed a
TOWEL, and this time he returns with the poopy washcloth that I had used to
clean Tuck. Okay Erin, keep calm. No Cole, a TOWEL, DO YOU SEE THIS BLOOD???
Third times a charm and I at least got a clean washcloth this time.
I then recruited Cole and Cooper to run and get my neighbor
Ashleigh. Tucker is still screaming in his crib (but contained!!) and Alex is
who knows where?
The boys come back and say that Ashleigh is not there, so I
send them to get Jen, my other neighbor. I also frantically call Eric and tell
him he better come because I cut my head and am bleeding everywhere. Just the
phone call you want to get, right? Well, the boys did well and returned with
Jen AND her husband Todd, who happens to be a surgeon! They arrived to help and
2 minutes later Eric arrived to the bloody scene of the crime.
The two surgeons conferred and it was decided that a few
stiches were needed. Eric decided to let Todd to the job, so in case it hurt, I
wouldn’t be mad at him J
So Todd and I trekked up to the hospital, where he sewed me up (and two of the
surgery residents checked on me to make sure he didn’t need help) and sent me
on my way. So now I get to look like a
battered wife for a few days (is it finally time for my role in a Lifetime
movie!!??), have a rockin headache and a swollen eye, but thankfully I (and the pumpkin) are
still in one piece. But you better believe that pumpkin is gonna pay. Pumpkin
bars, anyone?
This was the night of the injury
This is the next day (Thursday). You can't really tell from this picture, but under my eye is turning a nice black and blue shade as well.
